The NDIS, SDA, and How We Support You
A simple guide to understanding the system — and how Cherish SDA Homes can help.
We believe in removing complexity and bringing clarity — so you can focus on living, not navigating systems.
What is the NDIS
The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) is a government-funded program that provides support to Australians with a permanent and significant disability.
It’s designed to give people more choice, control, and the funding they need to live more independently — whether that means help with daily tasks, therapies, mobility equipment, or a tailored, purpose-built home that feels safe and truly yours.
Who is the NDIS for
The NDIS is for:
- People under 65 with a permanent disability
- Australian citizens, permanent residents, or Protected Special Category visa holders
- Those who need ongoing support to manage everyday activities
If you’re eligible, the NDIS can help you build a support plan tailored to your goals and needs — empowering you to live independently and with dignity.
Who is the NDIS not for
The NDIS is not for everyone — and that’s okay. The scheme is designed for people with ongoing, significant support needs. It does not cover:
- People aged 65 or over when applying
- Those with temporary or short-term conditions
- Individuals who are not Australian citizens, permanent residents, or holders of a Protected Special Category Visa
- People who need only mainstream or general community supports (like a short-term rehab, counselling, or aged care services)
If you’re unsure about your eligibility, feel free to reach out — we’re happy to point you in the right direction.
What is SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation)
SDA is a specific type of housing funded under the NDIS for participants who need specialist homes that support high physical needs, accessibility, or behavioural safety.
Not all NDIS participants require SDA — but for those who do, it can make a huge difference to their independence, safety, and quality of life.
Where Cherish SDA Homes Fits In
We provide SDA accommodation that’s built with purpose and care.
We’re not just a provider — we’re a partner on your journey and work closely with:
- NDIS participants and families
- Support coordinators and SIL providers
- Plan managers
- Allied health professionals
And we’re always open to working alongside others who support participants with housing and care.
Our role is to make the process smoother, clearer, and more human — from finding the right home to matching support needs and building long-term trust.
